I think alot of people recognize a drum by its lead singer because it is traditionally the lead singer who has the songs, leads them out, keeps everyone on beat, signals things, makes sure everyone gets where they are going and are taken care of.
Some drums you can tell who it is just by hearing the lead because they have a distinctive voice. Opie, Dreaver, Randy, Elgin, etc. And unless you hear other guys do leads you get use to hearing just the lead singer voice. Everyone else becomes "just a bunch of other guys" singing.
I dont think people disrespect the other singers, they just dont get to hear them as much.
When I listen to a CD I try to pick out each different voice. Just like when Im listening to rock music I try to isolate each instrument to hear the riffs.
Also some people find it easier than knowing the names of 10 ro 15 people on a drum, sometimes the lead singer is the only guy on the drum that is the same every year.
Kinda like a rock group,
Steven Tyler-Aerosmith,
Paul Stanley-KISS,
Ozzy Osbourne-Black Sabbath et al.,
Jon Bon Jovi-Bon Jovi.
How many people can name the rest of these bands members? Original members and present members. (besides me)
