Having said that it has been noticed depending who is sitting at the drum that there is a tendancy to speed the tempo
And man I am here to tell you it does change the nature of the Gourd song and ultimately the dance.
I can not speak for Powwows outside of Oklahoma.
I am only talking about powwows in the center part of this State...
Because it matters greatly who is sitting at that Drum, and who is Head Singer whether or not he will maintain control of the Tempo.
As for Skying which is a Northern thing, It dont belong in a Gourd Song... period.

Right on Josiah! when i started singing i had my dad, uncle bill kaulaity, g-pa Luscious Ahhaitty, g-pa Yale Spottedbird, say-gee Vincent Spottedbird, my mom , Aunt Barbara Monoessey, Roberta Toehay, g-ma Ruth Redbird, and of course my older bro.'s and cousins from these families mentioned and them some. But it is true when the young get involved it is better to correct them with love but when we got corrected we got CORRECTED BY THESE INDIVIDUALS!!!!! ESPECIALLY MY DAD AND UNCLE BILL. So yeah it's true who's the head singer and he sets the tempo throughout the day! So haw bay taw, let's get back to the basix.
