But times are changing as they always have and always will..is this a new era of singin...I can understand the tempo being peppy at a powwow especially when a southern drum has to sing after a northern drum....gotta keep the dancers goin can't slow em down...so faster tempos are carried away....but hmmm...Gourd dance...no reason to be that fast..i hear dancers complain...but when your jammin..its hard to slow every other singer down....what you guys think?
We had a thread running last year about this very subject in the Gourd Thread...

When I started Gourd Dancing there were mainly old guys around that drum
Now days they are younger and younger which in itself is good because it means that the next generation has and will continue these songs

Having said that it has been noticed depending who is sitting at the drum that there is a tendancy to speed the tempo
And man I am here to tell you it does change the nature of the Gourd song and ultimately the dance.

I can not speak for Powwows outside of Oklahoma.
I am only talking about powwows in the center part of this State...

Because it matters greatly who is sitting at that Drum, and who is Head Singer whether or not he will maintain control of the Tempo.

As for Skying which is a Northern thing, It dont belong in a Gourd Song... period.
