How to Cut String Buckskin Thongs

How to Cut String Buckskin Thongs

Cutting Leather Thong

Long pieces of thong can be cut from scraps of leather by cutting it from a circle of buckskin. Using the best part of the scrap, trim the edge so there are smooth curves, generally shaped in a circle.

Begin on one edge and cut around until you have as long a thong as you desire. Stretch the thong after cutting to pull it straight, make it more uniform, and to be sure no flaws will cause it to break.

To string buckskin thong through beads or bone, trim one end to a blunt point and put a slit through the leather near the point. This is to allow you to thread a wire through the thong to act as a needle.

Fold a 10 inch, small diameter wire in half, making it like a needle. String the wire through the hole in the end of the thong. This wire now can be used to string as long as a 4 inch bone hairpipe, or a number of beads.

You can now pull the thong through the beads or hairpipe and it is much easier than trying to push the leather throng through the beads.
